(IsraelNN.com) Israel is facing a water crisis and is expected to face water levels that are below the safe levels by the end of the summer, according to a report by Haaretz.

The Water Authority operating committee will meet next week to discuss the necessity of implementing water conservation measures to meet the country's needs while preserving basic water quality, which is affected by a drop below the safe minimum level.

The country's main sources of water are Lake Kinneret (Sea of Galilee), the western Mountain Aquifer (Yarkon-Taninim) and Coast Aquifer.

In an interview with a Israeli professor in water management on March 12, '08, said that Israel needs to stop subsidizing water prices for farmers and stop exporting millions of liters of water in the form of vegetables and flowers. "We can't export drinking water," he said. Farmers should rather be compensated for not producing for the export market. However, he was adamant that Israel should be green and that farmers should be charges with developing and maintaining green areas as is done in Switzerland.

PS. from Holy Land Inc. Projects: Israel recycles 75 percent of its waste water for farming purposes, the highest in the world. The use of fresh water for farming should be limited and farmers should be prosecuted for wasting water, viz. by not fixing leaks of pipes and faucets.
